A clear direction to an exciting journey in eye surgery

WHEN Dr. Ches Heredia, DBPO and Dr. Ricky Aranzamendez, DBPO, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer, respectively, of Borough Lasik Center, founded the center some 16 or 17 years ago, the vision of Dr. Heredia was to give quality service while also trying to make eye surgeries and other eye-related procedures more affordable to the public.

And the two, together with their other partners, invested on state-of-the-art technology and top-class equipment, learned the newest techniques to make sure that the services that Borough Lasik Center offers are comparable with other institutions.

Recently, the two met with members of the media in order to give them that perfect view of what Borough Lasik Center is all about. By meeting the media, Dr. Heredia and Dr. Aranzamendez opened their eyes to Borough’s vision, which is laser-focused on making Borough a premier eye surgery clinic in the country that will help patients explore the best solution to achieve optimum vision.

Dr. Heredia said they started first with a multi-specialty clinic at a time when competition was tough, but later focused on the eyes, and transferred to the Mall of Asia’s South Wing in 2006 then moved to the North Wing in 2016 and separated the eye clinic from the regular clinic. “Business was kind of slow; there was no social media back then so we just relied on word of mouth. We also relied on doctors to bring in their patients so that helped.”

And now there’s the Davao clinic, which Dr. Heredia said is slowly outperforming Manila. “We opened our Davao clinic and it’s doing really good. Imagine that there’s no one offering laser eye surgery in Davao so they were excited when they learned that there’s going to be a clinic that offers laser eye surgery. We’re glad to have partners there in Davao who helped us put up the clinic and make the vision a reality.”

Dr. Heredia said in order to keep pace with the latest in eye surgery procedures, they regularly attend conventions, mostly in Europe, one of which they are eyeing to attend next month. “We try to keep abreast with the latest technologies to keep us updated with our offerings. In fact, we will attend a convention in Europe next month, which will also be an opportunity for us to train.”

Borough Lasik Center believes that people should have access to affordable yet quality eye solutions and services (complete eye check-up, doctor consult, even surgery) in order to help them see again on a better light regardless of economic status.

Dr. Ricky Aranzamendez, DBPO

Dr. Aranzamendez, for his part, said that Borough Lasik Center, being more of a family-oriented clinic, they give a personal touch to their service aside from having a more affordable pricing scheme for their fees. “Many of the doctors here, we’ve been together for the longest time, many of us trained together to become more competent, and more importantly, we all understand the vision of Dr. Heredia in making eye-related medical procedures as affordable as possible without sacrificing quality,” he said.

As he mentioned, Dr. Heredia said Borough has always tried to be innovative, to bring in the latest in terms of equipment technologies and techniques, one of which they will be bringing in soon just to give Borough that sort of advantage. “We’re very happy with where we are despite the pandemic which, truthfully, worked well for Borough, but we are more excited to where we are going.”
