Boracay will mark a historic milestone on March 21 as it hosts its first-ever Hari Raya Eid al-Fitr celebration, one of Islam’s most significant holidays that signals the end of Ramadan.

The festivities, set against the scenic backdrop of Boracay Newcoast, aim to highlight inclusivity and cultural exchange. Visitors—both Muslim and non-Muslim—can look forward to cultural performances, family-friendly activities, and communal gatherings that embody the joyous spirit of Eid. Dedicated spaces will also be provided for prayer and reflection.
A highlight of the event will be a Halal festival dinner curated by renowned Filipino chef Tahir Malikol, featuring dishes inspired by Islamic culinary traditions.
The initiative is a collaboration between the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Megaworld Hotels & Resorts (MHR), the first hotel chain in the Philippines with all 13 properties certified as 100% Muslim-friendly. Boracay Newcoast itself is home to two DOT-certified Muslim-friendly hotels—Savoy Hotel Boracay and Belmont Hotel Boracay—as well as Marhaba Beach, the country’s only dedicated Muslim-friendly beach.
Local leaders emphasize the event’s deeper meaning. Mayor Frolibar Bautista of Malay, Aklan, noted that welcoming diverse traditions fosters dialogue and peace. MHR Cluster GM Sonny Alvaro added that travel becomes more than leisure when it nurtures cultural understanding and shared values.
With this celebration, Boracay is positioning itself not just as a premier beach destination, but as a Muslim-friendly hub in Southeast Asia, joining the ranks of regional tourism leaders like Malaysia and Indonesia.
