CALATRAVA, Romblon — Travelers looking for an affordable yet refreshing summer getaway may find a promising option in Calatrava, an emerging destination on the northern coast of Tablas Island.

Known for its unspoiled beaches, rich culture, and laid-back island atmosphere, Calatrava is positioning itself as a practical choice for tourists seeking value without compromising experience.
Mayor Robert Bong Fabella said the town offers an alternative for travelers amid rising travel costs.“Calatrava is a budget-friendly destination where visitors can enjoy the charm of Romblon without stretching their finances,” he said.
Among its top attractions are coastal destinations such as Cove Aurelio Resort, Lapus-Lapus Beach, Guindawahan Island, and Tinagong Dagat in Barangay Talisay, along with Ngak-Ngak Beach, Balai Azinan, and Bulawan Farm Resort in nearby barangays.
Island-hopping packages remain affordable, with rates starting at around ₱3,000 for groups of up to 10 persons, while accredited local diving groups offer guided tours to more remote sites.
The local government also maintains an environmental fee of ₱20 per visitor, supporting conservation efforts and cleanliness across tourist areas.
Beyond its beaches, Calatrava features scenic inland attractions, including waterfalls such as Salingpaca Falls, Oray Falls, Humbak-Humbak Falls, Kalipay Falls, Cawa Falls, Secret Lagoon Falls, Tagpuan Falls, and El Telon Falls.
Visitors can also enjoy local cuisine, with restaurants offering fresh seafood dishes such as grilled fish, kinilaw, and traditional seafood stews. Accommodations range from budget guesthouses to beachfront inns, catering to various types of travelers.
Fabella emphasized that beyond natural attractions, hospitality remains a key draw.“We want to ensure that in Calatrava, every peso counts and memories last,” he said.
Travelers are advised to coordinate with the local tourism office for updated information and assistance when planning their visit.
