The Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT) has unveiled two significant initiatives for June and July 2026, designed to enrich the travel experience for both international and domestic visitors. These programs, the Transit Tours for international layover passengers at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) and the Philippine Experience Program (PEP) Regional Tours, aim to deepen visitor engagement, highlight the nation's rich culture and heritage, and bolster community-based tourism across the archipelago.

The Transit Tour program offers international passengers with layovers of at least eight hours a unique opportunity to explore Manila. These four-hour curated experiences transform waiting times into immersive cultural, historical, and lifestyle journeys. Travelers can choose between a morning tour focusing on Intramuros and the National Museum, or an afternoon tour visiting modern entertainment hubs like Okada Manila and Solaire Resort & Casino. This initiative, primarily for Philippine Airlines passengers, provides a valuable first impression of the capital, complete with guided tours, transportation, and all admission fees for USD 50 per person.

Complementing this, the Philippine Experience Program (PEP) Regional Tours serve as the DOT's flagship initiative for community-based tourism. These tours encourage travelers to engage directly with local culture and heritage in various regions. Popular destinations include Calabarzon for arts and culture, Bicol for adventure near Mayon Volcano, Western Visayas for heritage towns, and Palawan for historical and ecological experiences. Available through platforms like Klook, PEP tours offer professional guides, transportation, entrance fees, and immersive activities, fostering meaningful connections between visitors and Filipino communities.

These strategic programs underscore the DOT's commitment to diversifying tourism offerings and promoting sustainable growth. By catering to both short-stay international visitors and those seeking deeper domestic exploration, the Philippines is positioning itself as a multifaceted travel destination. The focus on authentic cultural engagement and community empowerment is crucial for the industry's long-term vitality and its contribution to local economies.

Looking ahead, the success and potential expansion of these programs will be key indicators for the future of Philippine tourism. They represent a proactive approach to showcasing the country's unique appeal and ensuring a memorable experience for every traveler, ultimately strengthening the Philippines' standing on the global tourism stage.
