IKEA to Launch Compact Quezon City Store on October 23

Swedish furniture giant IKEA is expanding its footprint in the Philippines with the opening of a new branch in Quezon City on October 23, 2025. Located at Trinoma Mall, this store marks IKEA’s second in the country and introduces a new concept: the “Plan & Order Shop.”

At just 500 square meters, the Trinoma branch is among the smallest IKEA stores globally. Despite its size, it offers access to all 8,500 IKEA products, which customers can order for pickup or nationwide delivery. The store will also feature curated design exhibits and a selection of smaller items available for immediate purchase.

Ricardo Pinheiro, IKEA Philippines’ Country Retail Manager, emphasized the store’s mission to bring IKEA closer to Quezon City residents. “It’s a way for us to bring our range, our identity closer to Quezon City customers,” he said, noting that the format could influence future expansion plans.

The new store is a collaboration with Ayala Malls, whose COO Paul Birkett highlighted the shift in retail trends. “Size is not as important as it ever used to be,” Birkett remarked, affirming that smaller retail spaces can still deliver big experiences.

IKEA’s initial investment in the Trinoma branch is estimated at €500,000 (₱30–35 million). The company remains optimistic about its growth in the Philippines, especially with the holiday season approaching. Dinnerware and kitchenware continue to be top sellers among Filipino shoppers.

Looking ahead, IKEA is exploring local sourcing opportunities, particularly for textiles. Currently, only the natural plants sold in stores are sourced from the Philippines.

With its dual-format strategy—combining compact “Plan & Order Shops” with large-scale stores like the flagship in Pasay— IKEA aims to reach more Filipinos and adapt to evolving retail landscapes.
