Remember the jingle “Serg’s ikaw pa rin” that once ruled the airwaves? In the ’80s and ’90s, Serg’s Chocolates was the bar you grabbed at the sari-sari store, the treat tucked into lunchboxes, the taste of childhood wrapped in foil.

In 2001, the company closed its doors. That same year, Sergio Goquilay, the man behind the name, passed away. For fans, it felt like the end of an era.

Two decades later, the story is picking up again. Serg’s recently shared on Facebook the hurdles they’ve faced: COVID-19, the 2024 Carina floods that damaged their warehouse,

and other delays that kept pushing their plans further out of reach. Still, they made it clear: “2026 will be our restart year.”

The comeback will begin small, right where it all started on Cordillera Street in Quezon City. If things go as planned, Serg’s bars could be back on shelves by the third quarter of 2026.

Behind the revival is Sergio’s son-in-law, Randy Ong, who has been renovating the family’s ancestral home into a mini chocolate-making hub. His promise back in 2020—“Serg’s will come back”—is finally taking shape.

The wait has been long, the journey messy, but the return looks sweeter than ever. Serg’s is asking fans to rally online, share the love, and get ready to unwrap a piece of Filipino heritage once more.

Because when it comes to chocolate, some classics never fade. They just take a little time to melt back into our lives.
