The 2024 Aviation Summit, organized by the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines, successfully brought together over 300 participants from across the aviation industry to discuss the future of both Philippine and global aviation. Held with key stakeholders from the government and private sectors, the summit explored a range of critical topics that will shape the aviation landscape for years to come.

The summit was packed with valuable insights from various sectors, all expressing optimism for the future of aviation. Over the next five to twenty-five years, the aviation sector is expected to see significant growth, despite current challenges. Discussions highlighted key issues such as pain points, show stoppers, and hurdles, but emphasized the strong partnerships between the government and private sectors aimed at providing safe, efficient, and reliable air transport. These collaborations are set to play a crucial role in driving the economic growth of the Philippines.

Industry experts led discussions on the aviation sector's outlook, innovations in airport and aircraft designs, digitalization, and the growing role of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Sessions also highlighted the latest regulatory frameworks, legislative developments, and best practices in cybersecurity. Strategies for upskilling professionals to meet the sector's increasing demands, as well as collaborations through public-private partnerships, were key focal points.

A major highlight of the summit was the launch of the Philippines' Sustainable Aviation Fuel Feasibility Study, a collaboration between the Department of Transportation (DOTr), the Department of Energy, and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, with support from Airbus. Additionally, the introduction of the Sustainable Aviation Fuel Certificates (SAFc) Marketplace Proof of Concept between the DOTr and EC-Impact showcased the country’s commitment to greener aviation solutions.
In his address, DOTr Secretary Jaime Bautista emphasized the government's dedication to enhancing aviation infrastructure. He pointed to recent advancements such as the concession of Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) to the New NAIA Infrastructure Corporation, calling it the fastest public-private partnership (PPP) project in history. Bautista also shared plans for the development of regional airports in Iloilo, Cagayan de Oro, Tuguegarao, Siargao, and Zamboanga, signaling the government's ongoing commitment to improving air transport facilities across the country.
These initiatives, along with close collaboration between the government and the private sector, are expected to drive economic growth and position the Philippines as a key player in global aviation.
