A FUR-fect Valentine’s Date

This Valentine’s season, the Philippine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) is offering a date idea that’s bound to tug at your heartstrings. Instead of the usual roses and chocolates, imagine spending time with a rescued cat or dog—sharing affection, laughter, and maybe even finding your purrfect match

Through their annual “FURst Date” fundraiser, PAWS invites animal lovers to go on heartwarming “dates” with shelter rescues. Whether you’re near or far, there’s a way to join in. Online dates via Zoom run from February 9 to 10, giving long-distance supporters or busy hearts the chance to connect virtually. For those who want to feel the warmth of a wagging tail or the gentle nuzzle of a cat in person, onsite dates at the PAWS shelter will be held from February 12 to 14. Each visit includes thirty minutes of bonding with a furry friend, plus a guided tour of the shelter led by a volunteer, where guests can learn more about the animals’ stories of resilience and hope.

And for anyone who can’t make it onsite or online, PAWS offers another touching option: sponsoring a rescue’s special date with a volunteer. Even animals who are too shy or fragile to join the regular activities will still get to feel cherished, celebrated, and loved this season.

Since its founding in 1954, PAWS has been at the forefront of rescuing abused and neglected animals, advocating for their rights, and providing low-cost “kapon” procedures to communities in need. The FURst Date initiative, held annually since 2019, is more than just a Valentine’s event—it’s a chance to change lives, both for the rescues and for the people who meet them.

As PAWS beautifully puts it: “Roses are cute. Chocolates are nice. But this Valentine’s, you can fur in love and change a life.”
