MANILA – At the World Culinary Awards Gala Ceremony held in Dubai on October 3, Angeles City in Pampanga was awarded Asia’s Best Emerging Culinary City Destination, highlighting its rising prominence in global food tourism.
Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco praised the accolade, stating it reflects the talent and dedication of local chefs and food artisans. "Angeles City’s rich culinary heritage, especially its iconic dish sisig, continues to impress food lovers both locally and internationally, showcasing the allure of Filipino cuisine on the world stage," she remarked.
Richard, the Department of Tourism (DOT) 3 Director, accepted the award, marking Angeles City’s first recognition in this category. Frasco emphasized the collective efforts of the city and province to preserve and celebrate their culinary traditions, including a recent ordinance designating Sisig Babi as an Intangible Heritage of Angeles.
Known for its diverse offerings—such as sisig, tokwa’t baboy, street food, and bibingka—Angeles City is now a must-visit for food enthusiasts. The city faced tough competition from other notable culinary destinations like Hanoi, Kuala Lumpur, Taipei, and Kyoto.
During the ceremony, Richard connected with influential figures in the culinary sector, who expressed interest in the Philippines' vibrant food culture. The World Culinary Awards, an extension of the World Travel Awards, celebrates excellence in the culinary field after a year-long evaluation of leading culinary brands globally.
