Bacolod Glows with Smiles at MassKara Festival 2025

The vibrant city of Bacolod came alive once again as thousands gathered to celebrate the 46th MassKara Festival, a dazzling showcase of resilience, creativity, and joy. The Department of Tourism (DOT), led by Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, joined the festivities at the Paglaum Sports Center on Sunday, October 19.

In her keynote speech, Secretary Frasco praised Bacolod’s enduring spirit, calling the MassKara Festival a powerful symbol of hope and transformation. “The story of MassKara reminds the world that amidst hardship, there is hope,” she said. “Here in Bacolod, you have turned challenges into celebration, and despair into determination.”

The festival, known globally for its colorful masks and street dances, has become more than just a visual spectacle—it’s a celebration of the Bacolodnon identity. Secretary Frasco emphasized that the event reflects the city’s unwavering optimism and strength, describing Bacolod as “vibrant, creative, and full of hope.”

Beyond the performances, the MassKara Festival continues to draw tourists to Bacolod’s rich cultural offerings—from its flavorful cuisine and thriving art scene to its historical landmarks.

“As we cheer for our MassKara performers,” Frasco added, “let us celebrate not just the beauty of the masks, but the strength of all the people of Bacolod: malipayon, malaumom, kag madaugon sa tanan panahon (happy, hopeful, and victorious at all times).”

The event was graced by Bacolod’s local leaders including Congressman Albee Benitez, Mayor Greg Gasataya, Vice Mayor Claudio Puentevella, and several city councilors. Joining Secretary Frasco were DOT-VI Regional Director Krisma Rodriguez, Undersecretary Ferdinand Jumapao, and Director Paulo Tugbang.
