Camiguin has earned a spot on The New York Times’ prestigious annual list of “52 Places to Go in 2026,” ranking 37th among must-visit destinations worldwide.

The New York Times described the island province as a “water lover’s paradise,” highlighting its sandbars, hot and cold springs, waterfalls, and rich marine life.

“Camiguin is foremost a destination for those who love the water,

with treasure-chest-size neon clams, an abundance of sea turtles around white sandbar islets, hot and cold springs, and waterfalls for bathing,” wrote travel journalist Patrick Scott.

The article also cited upcoming developments such as the soon-to-open boardwalk in Mambajao town, expected later this year. Other notable attractions mentioned include the island’s iconic sunken cemetery and its growing reputation as a sports tourism hub, hosting swimming and running events, including triathlons.

Tourism in Camiguin continues to gain momentum. In a statement released earlier this month, Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo reported that tourist arrivals rose from 288,558 in 2024 to 397,818 in 2025, marking a nearly 38 percent increase.

Camiguin joins other Southeast Asian destinations featured on the 2026 list, including Penang in Malaysia, Bangkok, and Vietnam.

The “52 Places to Go” list is published annually by The New York Times, spotlighting destinations around the world known for culture, natural beauty, and unique travel experiences.
