Department of Tourism (DOT) Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco held a meeting with Tourism Congress of the Philippines (TCP) President James M. Montenegro on October 14 at the DOT Central Office in Makati City, focusing on key developments in the country’s tourism sector. The meeting served as a platform for both parties to discuss strategies aimed at advancing Philippine tourism, fostering collaborations, and improving industry standards.
During the discussions, the TCP provided a comprehensive overview of progress within the sector. This included reports on ongoing collaborations with local government units (LGUs) and private stakeholders, efforts to enhance service standards, and aligning marketing strategies to boost the competitiveness of tourism products and services across the Philippines. The TCP emphasized its commitment to working with various entities to create a unified approach toward elevating the country’s global tourism standing.
Secretary Frasco responded by outlining the DOT’s initiatives aimed at strengthening the tourism value chain. These initiatives include partnering with tourism-enhancing agencies, intensifying promotional efforts for the country’s diverse tourism offerings, and supporting private sector participation. Secretary Frasco highlighted the importance of fostering strategic partnerships among government bodies, the private sector, and other stakeholders. She stressed that these collaborations would be crucial in developing policies and programs that benefit the industry, particularly in enhancing visitor experiences and ensuring the sustainability of tourism growth.

Additionally, the DOT reiterated its support for the TCP’s initiative to expand its membership base. Secretary Frasco noted that the goal is to ensure that all accredited tourism enterprises, regardless of their size, have equal opportunities to contribute to shaping Philippine tourism policy. By doing so, the DOT aims to create a more inclusive and competitive tourism sector that is prepared to meet global demands.
The meeting was also attended by TCP Vice President for Visayas Peter Tay, DOT Undersecretary and Chief of Staff Shahlimar Hofer Tamano, and several other DOT officials, reflecting the joint effort to elevate the Philippine tourism landscape.
Both the DOT and TCP are committed to their shared vision of making the Philippines a top global tourism destination. This ongoing partnership aims to create a sustainable, competitive, and inclusive tourism industry, ensuring that the country’s rich cultural heritage, natural beauty, and hospitality continue to attract visitors worldwide. The collaboration also seeks to strengthen the foundation for long-term growth, ensuring that tourism becomes a driving force for economic development in the country.
