MANILA - The Department of Tourism (DOT) is optimistic that more Filipino restaurants will be featured in the Michelin Guide’s 2027 edition, building on the country’s successful debut last year.

Tourism Secretary Christina Frasco said the guide will continue its Philippine coverage this year, with hopes that Pampanga—long celebrated for its rich culinary heritage—will be added to the list of cities under Michelin’s review. “What we’re hoping for is that Pampanga is included. For other cities, we leave it to Michelin to conduct their culinary audit,” she noted during an interview in Makati City.
Frasco emphasized that the DOT intends to sustain its partnership with Michelin until at least 2028, coinciding with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s term. The collaboration, she said, is part of a broader effort to elevate Filipino cuisine on the global stage.
The Michelin Guide’s 2026 edition marked a milestone, listing over 100 restaurants in Metro Manila, Cebu, and nearby areas. Since then, several establishments have reported increased sales and foreign patronage. Morning Sun Eatery in Quezon City, for instance, earned a Bib Gourmand distinction and has since expanded its staff to meet rising demand.
Frasco added that the international exposure generated by Michelin coverage has already reached an estimated media value of USD 8 million worldwide, underscoring the impact of global recognition on local dining.
For the DOT, the next edition is not just about adding more names to the list—it is about positioning Filipino gastronomy as a cultural and economic driver, with Pampanga’s culinary traditions offering a compelling case for inclusion.
