Fuel prices have officially crossed the ₱100 mark, and for drivers, every trip to the pump feels heavier than the last. But while the roads grow more expensive, the rails are offering relief. Starting TODAY March 23, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) has cut fares on the LRT-2 and MRT-3 by half—giving millions of commuters a break exactly when they need it most.

No complicated steps, no hidden conditions. Tap your Beep Card or buy a Single Journey Ticket, and the discount applies automatically. Senior citizens, PWDs, and students continue to enjoy their existing 50% discounts through white Beep Cards, unchanged. For regular passengers, the difference is immediate: a short LRT-2 ride that once cost ₱15 now drops to ₱8, while an end-to-end MRT-3 trip that used to be ₱28 is now only ₱14.
The fare cut follows a directive from President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., framed as a way to ease the daily burden of commuting costs while global tensions drive fuel prices higher. For now, the discount covers LRT-2 and MRT-3, though talks are underway with the Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) about extending the same benefit to LRT-1.
No end date has been announced, which means commuters have every reason to take advantage while it lasts. In a time when fuel prices keep breaking records, half-price train fares are more than just a discount—they’re a lifeline, keeping the city moving and giving Filipinos a breather in the middle of economic strain.
