The Miss Universe 2024 pageant will mark a historic moment as the winner is set to wear a crown crafted by Filipino artisans, courtesy of the renowned jewelry brand, Jewelmer. The brand, celebrated for its iconic South Sea pearls, shared the news on Instagram, emphasizing the significance of this moment for both the Philippines and the global pageant community.
In its announcement, Jewelmer described the crown as a “masterpiece” that brings together the efforts of the brand’s pearl farmers, skilled Filipino craftsmen, and nature itself. “Jewelmer makes history with the first Filipino-crafted crown for Miss Universe,” the post reads, highlighting the artistry and dedication involved in creating this emblem of Filipino craftsmanship.
Jewelmer’s roots trace back to 1979, founded by a French pearl farmer and a Filipino entrepreneur. Over the years, it has grown into an internationally respected brand, known especially for its exquisite South Sea pearls, sourced sustainably from the pristine waters of Palawan.
Jacques Christophe Branellac, CEO of Jewelmer, expressed his pride in bringing the Filipino-made crown to an international stage. In his own Instagram post, he wrote, “From Palawan to the Universe! Off we go to Mexico City to launch the new crown of Miss Universe by @jewelmer! First time for the Universe to have a crown made in the Philippines adorned by our national gem, the golden south sea pearl! Para sa bayan!”
This new crown continues the trend of pageants embracing unique, meaningful designs. Filipino-American R'Bonney Gabriel, who won the Miss Universe 2022 title, was the first to wear the "Force for Good" crown. Now, the successor to reigning queen Sheynnis Palacios of Nicaragua will wear this distinctive, Filipino-crafted symbol on the Miss Universe stage in Mexico City.
