Philippine Air Lines Unveils New Leader

Philippine Airlines (PAL), the nation’s flag carrier, has appointed Richard Nuttall as its new president, effective May 29. Nuttall will replace Captain Stanley K. Ng, who will assume his new role as vice president of PAL Holdings Inc.

Bringing decades of experience in aviation and management, Nuttall previously served as the CEO of Sri Lankan Airlines, where he played a pivotal role in transforming the airline into an operationally profitable entity. He was also an executive board member of the SkyTeam Alliance, where he spearheaded reforms to enhance governance, streamline decision-making, and foster collaboration among member airlines.

This leadership transition is part of PAL’s broader strategy to expand its international presence while strengthening management capabilities. Lucio Tan III, president of PAL Holdings, expressed confidence in Nuttall’s ability to deliver on this vision. “As President, he will play an active role in bringing a global dimension to the Heart of the Filipino. I look forward to working closely with him in the days and months ahead,” Tan remarked.

For his part, Nuttall highlighted his excitement about joining the company, emphasizing the airline’s accomplishments and potential for growth. “The airline has achieved so much in recent years, and I look forward to building on that progress as we explore new avenues for growth,” he said.

PAL’s performance remains strong, with the company reporting a net income of PHP 10.01 billion in 2024—a testament to its resilience and operational improvements.
