When Capt. Stanley K. Ng was featured last year in our magazine, his story captured a moment of optimism — the rise of a young leader ready to guide the country’s flag carrier toward a brighter horizon. As the youngest-ever president of Philippine Airlines and the first active pilot to hold the role since 1963, his appointment marked a historic chapter for the airline. It was a story of renewal and confidence in fresh leadership — one that proved well placed during his tenure.

Ng served as PAL’s president and chief operating officer from January 2022 until May 2025. During this period, he guided the airline through disciplined recovery and thoughtful expansion. PAL sustained profitability and strengthened its position in a competitive global landscape, with financial performance exceeding industry averages. Route expansion followed, highlighted by the launch of the Manila–Seattle nonstop service — the airline’s first new U.S. destination in nearly a decade — and the return of key domestic and regional flights such as Cebu–Osaka and Clark–Siargao.

Operational reliability and customer satisfaction also improved under his leadership. Ng’s approach, informed by his background as a pilot, combined precision, calm, and a deep respect for safety. He consistently emphasized that PAL’s people are its greatest asset, fostering collaboration and shared purpose across the organization.

His forward vision extended to sustainability as well. PAL committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050 and began adopting fuel-efficient practices and greener operations. For Ng, progress meant balancing the airline’s rich legacy with the responsibility to prepare it for a cleaner, more connected future.
Today, having concluded his tenure as president, Ng continues to influence the airline as Vice President of PAL Holdings and a member of its Board of Directors. His time at the helm is remembered as a period of strategic growth, renewed confidence, and inspiration — proof that thoughtful leadership can lift not just planes, but an entire nation’s pride in its wings.
