The Department of Transportation (DOTr) is moving to establish direct flights between the Philippines and Israel, a development seen as a boost for tourism, trade, and cultural exchange. Acting DOTr Secretary Giovanni Lopez confirmed that the agency is coordinating with Israeli Ambassador Dana Kursh, Philippine Ambassador to Israel Aileen Mendiola, and the Department of Foreign Affairs to make the route possible within the year, in line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to expand international air connectivity.

Ambassador Kursh expressed enthusiasm, noting strong interest among Israeli travelers in visiting the Philippines’ top destinations. Mendiola highlighted that the flights could serve as gateways to deeper economic cooperation, paving the way for investments and joint projects.
Israel’s national carrier, EL AL Airlines, has also announced plans to launch non-stop flights by 2027, with departures from Tel Aviv expected to begin in March. Manila-bound flights remain subject to regulatory approval, but the groundwork is being laid for smoother travel between the two nations. This move invites scrutiny for its complex nature, yet at its core the DOTr initiative looks toward the bigger picture: expanding the Philippines’ reach through stronger air links.Direct flights to Israel are envisioned not just as a matter of convenience, but as gateways to tourism growth, economic collaboration, and cultural exchange. In this way, connectivity becomesmore than infrastructure; it becomes a bridge toward shared progress and deeper ties between nations.
