Holiday Inn & Suites Makati Achieves EDGE Zero-Carbon Certification

Holiday Inn & Suites Makati proudly announces that it has been awarded the prestigious EDGE Zero-Carbon Certification by the Philippine Green Building Initiative (PGBI), marking a significant milestone in the hotel’s sustainability journey and reinforcing its commitment to climate action and responsible hospitality.

EDGE Zero-Carbon is the highest level of certification under the EDGE (Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies) framework developed by the International Finance Corporation (IFC). It recognizes buildings that achieve substantial energy efficiency improvements and operate on 100% renewable energy, effectively neutralizing operational carbon emissions.

Holiday Inn & Suites Makati achieved 40.10% energy savings, translating to 2,592,195 kWh/year in reduced energy consumption, with a final Energy Use Intensity (EUI) of 146.3 kWh/m²/year. These results were made possible through a combination of energy-efficient building systems and the use of 100% offsite renewable energy generation, enabling the hotel to reach zero operational carbon emissions.

At Holiday Inn & Suites Makati, the transformation was guided not only by design and functionality, but by purpose. Through IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow, the hotel has implemented a range of sustainable initiatives including LED lighting, renewable energy solutions, solar panels, and efficient water systems, among others. These efforts significantly reduce energy use, conserve water, and lower the hotel’s carbon footprint—because caring for guests also means caring for the environment and the community.
