MANILA, Philippines — Nearly 34 years after it was established, Mortabond is expanding its presence across the Philippines with new products, wider distribution, and manufacturing initiatives that respond to the changing needs of the local construction industry.
Founded in 1992, the company began by manufacturing PVC plastering guides before expanding into dry-mix construction materials. Over the years, its product line has grown to include tile adhesives, skim coats, waterproofing systems, floor screeds, and ready-to-use solutions for residential and commercial projects. Following the expansion of its business-to-business operations in 2022, Mortabond products are now available nationwide.
"Our focus used to be on the retail market," said Architect Kevin G. Loo, Chief Executive Officer of Mortabond. "Moving into the business-to-business sector allowed us to reach more parts of the country. The Philippines is an archipelago, and we see many opportunities in developing communities where people are looking for practical and modern ways to build or renovate."
Among the company's newest offerings is REKTASEAL, a water-based hybrid sealant developed to repair cracks while providing dependable waterproof protection on concrete, metal, wood, gutters, and other commonly used building surfaces. Mortabond has also introduced EZBOND DIY, a compact additive that can be mixed with ordinary sand and cement to produce tile adhesive, making it a practical option for small-scale projects and household repairs.
Research and development remains central to the company's direction. Loo, who leads Mortabond's R&D program, said new products are developed by listening closely to contractors and addressing the problems they encounter on site.

"We have close relationships with contractors, and we value their feedback," Loo said. "When the same concern keeps coming up, we look for a better way to solve it. We develop a product, test it, and continue improving it until we're satisfied with the results."
The same mindset guides the company's manufacturing operations. Mortabond has begun integrating solar energy into production and is incorporating recycled construction aggregates into selected products to reduce dependence on natural sand resources. Its product range is also primarily water-based, offering an alternative to conventional solvent-based materials.
"We're gradually moving toward greener manufacturing," Loo said. "Sustainability isn't only about the product itself. It also means improving the way we make it."
The company is also working toward aligning its skim coats, tile adhesives, waterproofing products, and other construction materials with internationally recognized ASTM standards to promote consistent quality across its portfolio.
Mortabond continues to simplify product application as well. Many of its materials require only the addition of water before use, reducing preparation time for construction professionals while making them easier for homeowners to use on renovation projects.

Today, Mortabond supplies products approved by major developers and contractors across the country while continuing to invest in research and manufacturing. "Our objective has always been to make construction easier for Filipinos," Loo said. "If we can simplify the work without compromising quality, then we've done our job."
